Our Relationship with Nature
Humanity has achieved many milestones in its journey of development, but somewhere along the way, it has forgotten its deep connection with nature. The air we breathe, the water that sustains our lives, the soil that produces our food, and the creatures with whom we share this Earth—all are part of our creation.
Today, as the world faces challenges like climate change, pollution, water scarcity, and biodiversity loss, this question becomes crucial— Is environmental protection merely a scientific necessity, or can it also be a spiritual practice?
The Place of Nature in Indian Philosophy
In Indian culture, nature is not considered merely a resource, but rather the foundation of life and an element worthy of respect.
The essence of the Upanishads is:
"Sarvam Khalvidam Brahma"
That is, this entire creation is connected to a single fundamental consciousness.
In this view, humans are not the masters of nature, but a part of it. Trees, rivers, mountains, animals, birds, and all living beings are part of the same life flow.
Saint Tradition and Consciousness of Nature
Saint Kabir's Vision
Saint Kabir emphasized internal transformation and compassion for all living beings rather than external appearances.
The core of his teachings is that behind the diversity seen in creation, there exists a single element.
When a person sees respect for life in every living being, compassion and non-violence develop within him.
Guru Nanak's Environmental Vision
Guru Nanak Dev Ji expressed the importance of nature in these words:
"Wind is the Guru, water is the father, and earth is the mother."
That is, air is like the Guru, water is like the father, and earth is like the mother.
This message is equally relevant for environmental protection today.
Lord Buddha and Interdependence
Lord Buddha explained that everything in the world is interconnected.
A tree is not just a tree; it forms an entire life system along with soil, water, air, birds, insects, and many other organisms.
Modern Science and Environmental Balance
Modern ecology also shows that life on Earth functions as a balanced system.
- Forests influence the rainfall and water cycles.
- Soil quality is linked to food and quality of life.
- Animals and birds play a vital role in maintaining biodiversity.
- Water sources are the foundation of the entire ecosystem.
Science tells us how nature works, while spirituality teaches us how we should treat nature.
Environmental Crisis and Human Consciousness
Today, the environmental crisis is not just a technological problem, but is also linked to our lifestyle and thinking.
Excessive consumption, unnecessary accumulation, and the tendency to view nature as a mere commodity have increased pressure on the environment.
Only when our consciousness changes will our behavior change. Less consumption, more compassion, and responsible living are the path to a balanced future.
Animal and Bird Service: Compassion for Nature
Helping an injured bird, serving a helpless animal, or providing food and water for any creature is not just an act of kindness.
It is protecting the balance of life in which all living beings on Earth have equal rights.
Shristi Mitraa's Vision
Shristi Mitraa's core philosophy is:
"Where nature, animals, birds, and humanity breathe together."
With this vision, Shristi Mitraa:
- Care for injured animals and birds
- Creation of natural habitats
- Tree planting
- Environmental conservation
Strives to create a society sensitive to nature and living beings through activities such as:
Conclusion
If environmental protection is considered merely a responsibility, it becomes a task, but when it is done with love and compassion, it becomes a spiritual practice.
Service to nature is actually service to life.
Because we are not separate from nature— we are a part of creation itself.
Shristi Mitraa
Shristi Mitraa
Shristi Mitraa:
